Day One

Day one started for me at 10 AM, when I got in the car to go to Washington DC. After we got there, I was told to go up to my room and unpack. As soon as I got there, the firealarm went off, but no one was panicing, so I found a maid and asked her about it, and she said, "Don't Worry." So I went back to my room thinking, "This is going to be a long 5 days."

I borded the shuttle just in time to make sure I was there to get stuck in traffic right before the crashed car that was slowing everyone down got towed away. We arrived at the university of Maryland to find coloring projects on the wall (which weren't color inside the lines. my 5 year old cousin could do better) and though of my cousin who attends the university. "That explains a lot."

After we got to the classroom, I made a new friend and we went over the rules, which were exactly the same as every other one of these conferences. BORING!!!!!

After that, we had an ever nutrious dinner of fried chicken (a staple at PYIC), soda, mashed potatoe, and cupcakes. YUM!

We then went on to hear Presidential Historian Goodwin speak to us about president lincoln and about how we spent 8 year of his life with the people who hated him most in life just because he though it would make america a better place. Would I do it? Probabally not.

Afterwords, we heard from journalist, Lisa Ling. She was much more interesting and told of her story. From Channal 1 News to The View to National Geographic. She by far had the most interesting stories, especially of her travels to North Korea undercover. She encouraged us to travel before settling down, and was completely engaging.

Major bus delays. It took 2 hours for the bus to leave. More than a little rediculous. I then met my roomate mike, who, thank god, liked theatre. He was really nice and easy to get along with. We got to our room around 12:30 AM, but didn't get to sleep until security check at 1:30AM, despite the fact that they told us roomcheck would be 15 minutes after we got home. My roomate was very nice and has a good sense of humor.
